The Ubud area caters primariliy to two distinct groups of visitors and expatriate residents. Very visible, vocal and well known are those mainly attracted by the one of a kind village itself. They want walking distance proximity to the great selection of restaurants, shopping, art galleries, cultural activities, events and shows.
A similarly large but less visible group is drawn more to the surrounding hinterland's spectacularly scenic rivers and valleys. They savor life in a traditional Balinese rural community, serenity, larger living space, absence of traffic congestion and greater privacy. Good access to Ubud town's seductive buzz is of course important but without the trade offs of downtown accommodation.
